Are you incorporated as a nonprofit ?
We are not currently incorporated, but hope to incorporate in the near future.
How do you plan to make change?
In short, our goal is to put pressure on state representatives to support electing a reformer as the next speaker, during the next contested leadership race. We will advocate for the next speaker push through changes to the house rules to promote transparency and prevent abuses of power. We believe that many Reps are secretly on our side even if they won’t openly admit it. We may get involved in future primaries after 2018 but have no plans to get involved in the general election cycle.
What rule changes do you support?
Committee assignments delegated by a committee on committees or another mechanism independent of leadership
A prohibition on sending bills to “study”
Posting all committee votes online
Term limits for leadership
A more transparent budget process reforming so called “Consolidated Amendments”
Frequent deliberation and debate on the floor.
Applying open records law to the legislature (with exemptions for constituent services)
Representatives and Senators should be free to vote their conscience on the floor, and possess a firm grasp of what they are voting on
Aren’t you helping the GOP by bringing up this issue?
We believe if Democratic legislators are concerned about this issue being used in an election, they should take action to remedy it, instead blaming the messenger.
Shouldn’t we just have a Progressive as Speaker?
Be believe that in a democracy, the chair should not impose their ideology on the chamber, whether they be Conservative, Moderate, or Progressive. The role of the Speaker should be that of a neutral facilitator, making their ideology moot.
